Our tulips in full bloom Spring 2001!
We moved to Charlotte in July of 1999 and really love it here. Below are two pictures of our house. It is your basic brick ranch-style abode with ~2,100 sq. ft. on a 1/2 acre lot. Built in 1963, it has been well-maintained and has all the great qualities and character of an older home. We re-did the kitchen and put a fence around the backyard in 2007 (sorry, don't have any of those pictures up just yet. I guess you will just have to come and visit).
Most of the improvements we have made are on the inside (maybe I will get around to programming a virtual tour someday). We have painted, and replaced most of the light fixtures, however, for the most part, the house was in great shape when we bought it. We really didn't have to do much to make it look great--the hardwood floors were pristine. We did spend some coin to install new window treatments, but it was worth it. The kitchen is the next big project.
Next spring we will begin landscaping in earnest. We have planted several rose bushes and thinned out some of the smaller trees, but we hope to have some of the bigger trees removed this fall (we have over 60 in our front and back yards).
Note the slightly larger home on the right, this could be our next house if it comes on the market. The only differences between the two are an arboretum, an indoor swimming pool, about 100 more rooms, a two story library and a winery. Other than that, they are very much the same. Actually, the large home is the famous Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Mom, Dad and I visited there last fall--it exceeded all of our expectations--I highly recommend a tour if you are in the area.
